4 Things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with Your Dog

When you travel on vacation, one of the hardest things to do is leave your pet behind. Not only do you have to worry about boarding costs, but you spend your whole vacation worrying about the well-being of your furry friend. Luckily, when you stay at one of our pet-friendly cabins, you will not have to worry about leaving a member of the family behind. There are also many places where you can take your dog around the area to explore together. Here are 4 things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with your dog:

1. Visit Patriot Park in Pigeon Forge

Patriot ParkLocated on the banks of the Little Pigeon River, Patriot Park is one of the best places to take in some history while enjoying the day with your pup. At the park, there is a 0.5 mile walking trail that you can take your dog on. Along the path, you will see the flags from all 50 states and many memorials to the veterans of Pigeon Forge. The walking trail is very flat and will make for an easy walk for both you and your dog. If you want to adventure further, you can also walk to the Old Mill and the River Walk Greenway. Patriot Park is the perfect place for you and your dog to go experience some Pigeon Forge history while also getting some exercise.

2. Take a Trip on the Gatlinburg Trail

As one of only two trails in the national park that allows pets, the Gatlinburg Trail is a good place to go to experience the great views of the Smoky Mountains and still enjoy some time with your pet. The trail travels 1.9 miles from the Sugarlands Visitor Center to the outer edge of Gatlinburg. This trail runs through the forest which offers shade to ensure your dog doesn’t get too hot during the summer months and has great scenery with fantastic views of the Pigeon River.

3. The Island at Pigeon Forge

Island Pigeon ForgeAs one of the most popular destinations in Pigeon Forge, The Island has a variety of different shops and restaurants all in one place. Because it is set up like a town square, your pet is free to walk around as long as they are on a leash. While it is up to each individual shop and restaurant to determine whether or not they allow pets, it is worth taking your pet to just go sit in a rocking chair and enjoy the fountain show. There are also some shops at The Island that will allow you to shop with your dog.

4. Enjoy a Picnic

Although dogs are not allowed on most trails in the Smoky Mountains National Park, there is not a rule that prohibits them from the picnic areas. As long as you keep your pet on a leash, they can come to the picnic area with you and your family. If you want to truly experience the serenity of nature, you should pack a picnic basket and enjoy lunch as you listen to the creek running back behind you. Just remember to pack plenty of snacks for your furry companion! A picnic is one of the best things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with your dog.
